Congratulations to Linda Siegel, the winner of May's Photo Of The Month! Her picture of Mystere DF (Majestic Bey x Chances, by Baskhemo) and her youngest granddaughter, Emily, truly "capture the Arabian horse." Thanks to everyone who voted for their favorite picture and submitted photos for our monthly contest.

At this point I am only going to reiterate that you need to keep those photos coming!
In fact, why not take the opportunity to attach a photo of your own when you vote for June's Photo Of The Month? You just never know ... Send your votes and photos to kevin@ahtimes.com.

Once again, I wish everyone the best of luck, and I do hope that if you have any questions, comments or ideas, that you share them with me at: kevin@ahtimes.com.
I am always interested in hearing from you!

My kindest regards to everyone,

Economic Stimulus Act For Horse Industry
Benefits In The Economic Stimulus Act For Horse Industry
by Colleen Scott

While most consumers are starting to receive their Economic Stimulus Act checks, there are lesser known benefits to horse owners. As outlined by the American Horse Council, a lobbying organization based in Washington D.C., the Economic Stimulus Act, signed into law by President Bush on February 13, also provides tax incentives that would allow a much bigger write-off for horses and other depreciable property purchased and placed into service during 2008. Says American Horse Council President Jay Hickey, "This should provide an additional incentive for people to invest in more horses for racing, showing and breeding as part of their business activities." more ...

Introducing A New Horse To The Barn
Introducing A New Horse To The Barn
by Lee Bolles

When a new horse comes into the barn, there are some things you can do to make the transition into the herd a safe one. If you have just one or two on your place, start by stalling them next to one another. Then start riding them together, hauling them together and turning them out in adjacent paddocks. Ideally, I don't like to turn horses out together; anything can happen in just a split second. However, if your facility dictates they go out together, make sure they have ample space. The first time you plan to have them out together, put the new horse in the paddock or pasture first and give him time to explore. Then turn the other horse out to join him. more ...

In Memoriam
In Memoriam: Bruce Wolf (1945-2008)
by Linda White

Bruce Wolf died on Friday morning, April 18, at his home in Centennial, Colo. Born in Utah, Wolf came to Colorado as a small child. He grew up on his family's farm near Littleton, Colo., in what is today known as Centennial. He and his wife, Mary, lived at the farm at the time of his death. He was 63. The Arabian horse community meets his death with great sadness. So passionate was Bruce Wolf's love for Arabians, Half-Arabians and National Show Horses, that any attempt to put on paper his innumerable contributions would somehow seem an understatement. more ...

Feeding The Foal
Feeding The Foal
by Heather Smith Thomas

There are many opinions on how to feed foals, and there are a variety of feeding practices. If soundness is the ultimate goal, however, it's safer to allow foals to grow more slowly and naturally than to push for fast growth. Even in careers where early maturity and training are considered essential, a youngster who breaks down and can't continue as an athlete (because he was fed to grow big enough, fast enough for early sale and training) may be disappointing, compared with the foal allowed more time to reach maturity. more ...
Working With A Foal's Feet
Working With A Foal's Feet
by Tom McNair

I've seen a lot of people make working with a foal's feet harder than it has to be. There is a simple way to teach them how to be cooperative and willing. I usually start working on this when they are about 2 or 3 weeks old and repeat it every day for about 10 days, depending on the foal. Here's what I do. more ...
