In Memoriam
In Memoriam: Bruce Wolf (1945-2008)

by Linda White

Bruce Wolf died on Friday morning, April 18, at his home in Centennial, Colo. Born in Utah, Wolf came to Colorado as a small child. He grew up on his family's farm near Littleton, Colo., in what is today known as Centennial. He and his wife, Mary, lived at the farm at the time of his death. He was 63. The Arabian horse community meets his death with great sadness. So passionate was Bruce Wolf's love for Arabians, Half-Arabians and National Show Horses, that any attempt to put on paper his innumerable contributions would somehow seem an understatement. As an Arabian and Half-Arabian breeder, judge, board member and advocate, Bruce Wolf cast a very long shadow, beginning in 1962, when he first became involved with Arabians.
His services within the equine community were manifold. They included chairmanship of Littleton's Western Welcome Week Horse & Pony Show, beginning in 1985. He also managed the National Western Stock Show from 1973 to 1993, and he headed the prestigious Colorado Classic Horse Show from 1973 to 2002. He was the National Show Horse Registry's Board Chairman in 1986-87. A licensed "R" judge in the Arabian and NSH divisions, Wolf judged the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show three times and judged the U.S. National Championships six times. Other major judging assignments through the years included the Star World Show (two times), the Ohio Buckeye Sweepstakes, and recognized ASHA and USEF shows throughout the country. Bruce Wolf is survived by his wife, three stepchildren, a daughter from a previous marriage, grandchildren, a sister and a stepbrother. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands, Colo.
